Information regarding the ARML bus!

Hi all,

This is important information about the ARML bus. (If you're flying to ARML, feel free to disregard this email.)

The bus will load at the Roth Way parking lot at Stanford. To get to this parking lot, go down Palm Drive toward the Oval. You can make a right turn onto Roth Way immediately before the Oval. Here's a map: http://goo.gl/maps/Y2pXe. If you have trouble finding the bus, please call me at 541-206-7651.

All students should arrive for bus loading at 10:15am. Do not be late. Once the bus is loaded, it will leave without you if you are not there.

You may wish to bring games and movies for the bus. We will only have movies if someone brings them! Also, feel free to coordinate games, movies, etc on the SFBA ARML facebook page! https://www.facebook.com/groups/bayareaarml/ If you're not in the group, request to be added and I'll add you. :)

If you have any questions about the bus, please ask! See you tomorrow!

Updated ARML itinerary; evening activities info

Dear ARML team,

Moor and I have posted the updated itinerary for this weekend online. A few minor changes have been made, such as correcting chaperone phone numbers and slight schedule adjustments. Make sure you are on time for the bus tomorrow!

For the handful of you who are driving to ARML, directions are here.

On Friday night, ARML will be hosting a completely new activity (MathZoom is no longer involved with the Friday night activities). It will begin at 8 PM with a short talk by the Wizard of Odds, which I think will only go 10-20 minutes. The Super Relay will be held immediately after this talk. The rest of the night will be devoted to pizza and various games. The site coordinator has promised that lots of prizes will be given out, too.

On Saturday evening, the bus will be taking people to the Stratosphere Tower for buffet dinner and sightseeing. Anyone who wants to can come, and no advance notice is needed. You can come for dinner, sightseeing, both, or neither. Cost is $25 for dinner, $20 to go to the observation deck on top of the tower, and $5 for each ride if you want to go on them (there are rides at the top). We will discuss bus departure times at our team meeting after the competition. For those who don't want to go to the Stratosphere, you can stay on campus, and there will still be chaperones there. The traditional Casino Night activity will start around 8:30 PM, which might be slightly before the bus returns from the Stratosphere.

Unfortunately, not enough people were interested in Blue Man Group tickets to get the group discount, so that activity will be cancelled. If you bought a ticket, your payment will be refunded.

Looking forward to a great weekend--I hope you are too!

Updated itinerary and driving directions

Dear team,

Here is the updated itinerary for this weekend's ARML trip. Not much has changed since the last version, just some chaperone assignments and phone numbers and minor adjustments to the schedule.

If you're driving to ARML, or arriving by any means besides the bus or an official flight, read these driving directions and let me know if you have any questions.

Itinerary, practice reminder, permission slips

The link is now fixed. Here it is again.

Itinerary, practice reminder, permission slips

The link in my previous email appears to not be working at the moment. We will update you when it's fixed.

Also, to clarify: you may not turn in your permission slip at practice on Sunday. All permission slips must be mailed to the address on the Mathleague website at this point. Please contact us immediately if you have any questions about this.

Itinerary, practice reminder, permission slips

Dear team,

Here is the itinerary for next weekend's ARML trip. Please read it carefully and respond with any questions.

Our final practice of the season is this Sunday from 2:00-5:30 (note the slightly longer time!) at Stanford.

Also note that this Sunday is the deadline to turn in permission slips. If you are unsure of whether or not we have your permission slip, please email and check, as we will leave you at home if you don't have it turned in. You cannot turn in your permission slip as you board the bus.

Latest roster and transportation arrangements

Hi Everyone,

We've had some changes to our roster since last time I emailed, so I wanted to list our current teams. Remember, it is still possible for people to be moved up or down teams based on practice attendance, so please make sure you are at practice Sunday if possible. Next to each person's name is an indication of how they are getting to ARML and how they are getting home. If you have a flight to ARML, we do not have a dorm for you on Thursday night, and if you are flying home, we do not have a dorm for you on Saturday night. Please keep this in mind if you are taking a non-approved flight with your parents, as you and your parents will need to make appropriate arrangements for any nights for which we do not have a dorm room for you. If there are any mistakes on this list, please let us know ASAP.

Also remember that tomorrow is the deadline for purchasing Blue Man Group tickets or extra t-shirts; you can purchase these at http://mathleague.org/armlshirts.php.

T-shirt and Blue Man Group ticket orders

Hi Everyone,

As always, we are offering an opportunity to order additional ARML t-shirts if you would like an extra one (or one from a different team). The t-shirt designs and order form are up at http://mathleague.org/armlshirts.php until midnight on May 20. Please get your orders in by then if you'd like any extra shirts. Remember each student and coach will be issued one shirt in the size you requested on your application form and specific to your team, so there is no need to purchase a shirt if you only want one.

In addition, we are organizing an optional off-campus trip Saturday evening to watch the Blue Man Group perform at the Monte Carlo. Those of you who are staying Saturday night may choose to attend this performance for $60 or participate in our casino night at the dorms. Tickets to Blue Man Group, along with more information, are available at http://mathleague.org/armlshirts.php as well.

ARML team assignments

Hi Everyone,

Below are the team assignments for this year. If your name is not on this list, that means as far as we know you are not going to ARML, and if that is an error you need to let us know immediately. Moor will be double checking at practice to make sure we have correct contact and transportation information for everyone. Kendra will continue to nag you daily if you have not yet turned in your permission slips. :) T-shirt voting is complete, and we will be sending some information out this weekend about purchasing extra t-shirts as well as purchasing an optional excursion after the awards ceremony to see the Blue Man Group. Watch for that email soon. Good luck at practice this weekend, and I'll see you for the final practice next weekend!

Lunch survey, last call

Dear all,

Today is your last chance to submit the lunch survey. We are giving ARML numbers tonight, so you have until roughly 7 PM pacific time to submit your response if you haven't already. If I don't hear from you, you'll probably get a vegetarian lunch.

ARML lunch survey reminder and vegan options

Dear all,

Please remember to fill out the lunch survey by this Wednesday!

If you are vegan, please choose the veggie option, but also reply to this email with that information. We will be submitting a separate count of vegan lunches, but it's too late to change the survey.

Re: ARML logistics update

Hi all,

I just mistakenly sent two emails to the SFBA list, one of which was supposed to go to the Wild Wild West team, which Mathleague.org also administers.

Please disregard the email with the subject line "ARML logistics update", and read "Logistics, Saturday lunch, and t-shirt survey" instead. The relevant email should contain links to two different surveys, not one.

Sorry for the mixup!

--Silas

ARML logistics update

Dear ARML team,

A few announcements today:

1. This year, ARML will be providing box lunches on Saturday, to avoid having to wait in line at a very crowded dining hall. They need us to tell them how many of each type of lunch we need. To choose a lunch, please fill out this survey. This is mandatory for everyone who is going (or thinking of going) to ARML, and we need your response by Wednesday, May 13th. If you don't fill it out, we'll take a guess and hope you like the results.

2. Briefly, for those who haven't been to ARML before, I'd like to introduce myself. I'm Silas Johnson, a member of Mathleague.org's writing/editing staff during the "regular season". During ARML season, I handle some of our logistical planning. I will also be Power Question grading chair during the contest this year. I've always enjoyed working with the team, and this year is no exception. Some of you have already heard from me--if you email arml@mathleague.org with any questions about travel information, I'm most likely going to be the person replying.

3. Speaking of logistics, we hope to get a lot more information out to you in the next week. I know a lot of you are anxious to find out more about travel, but there are some things (such as dorm assignments, in particular) we need to wait until our team is finalized and ARML registration is complete to find out about. In any case, I plan to have something in the way of an itinerary out to you by the end of this week, even if it's tentative and missing a few things.

For those of you flying from Phoenix on the approved flight, we're still in the process of planning when you're going to meet at the airport and who's going to be the lead chaperone. Rest assured that we will have that information to you well ahead of the contest. For those driving, we're waiting to find out our dorm assignments and choose a meeting time. I expect to have a meeting time picked out by the end of next week. A location will have to wait until ARML assigns dorms, which will not happen until sometime after May 15th.

Here's the Saturday lunch survey again. Make sure to fill it out by Wednesday!

See you in a few weeks! --Silas

If you don't fill it out, we'll take a guess and hope you like the results.

2. This year's t-shirt survey is now available! There are five designs competing. Along with your votes for designs, you'll be asked for preferred colors. For those of you not already named to an elite team, we've asked you to categorize yourself as East Bay, West Bay, or San Jose. This will help us determine colors for the regional teams once we've determined how to split them up.

Responses for both surveys are due Wednesday. You don't have to fill out the t-shirt survey, but everyone MUST fill out the lunch survey.

3. Briefly, for those who haven't been to ARML before, I'd like to introduce myself. I'm Silas Johnson, a member of Mathleague.org's writing/editing staff during the "regular season". I will also be at the last practice on May 24th.

4. Speaking of logistics, we hope to get a lot more information out to you in the next week. For those of you flying, we're still in the process of matching chaperones with flights. Rest assured that we will have everyone in touch with their flight leaders well ahead of the contest.

Here are those two survey links again. Fill them out by Wednesday!

See you in a couple of weeks! --Silas

ARML practice dates

Hi everyone,

I have posted information on the practice website for the remaining three ARML practices in May. All three will be at Stanford.

The next practice is this Saturday, May 9, 3pm-6pm. We hope to see you there!

The exact timing of the practices on May 17 and May 24 should be considered tentative at this time. I do understand that we have a conflict with ProCo on May 17, for example, and we may push that practice later into the day. Watch the website for updates!

first wave of elite team members

Hi Everyone!

The coaching staff has identified our first 15 elite team members this year. We plan to select two elite teams this year, so each of these students is guaranteed a spot on either the A1 or A2 team. This list contains only students who signed up and paid for ARML on the priority timeline we established, but we still have 15 more spots to assign, so it's not too late to qualify for an elite team if you make sure your payment is in, show up to practice, and impress us. :) Remember, we will continue to accept payments until all our teams are filled, so if you haven't submitted payment yet and plan to go to ARML, please make sure to do that ASAP. Here are our first 15 elite team members:

Brian Burks
Anton Cao
Victor Chen
Matthew Hase-Liu
Arav Karighattam
Sujay Kazi
Jeffrey Li
Wentinn Liao
Patrick Lin
Timothy Ngotiaoco
Edwin Peng
Maya Sankar
Alexander Schlesinger
James Shi
Sammy Zhang

We'll be sending another email this week with information about voting on t-shirt designs, so be sure to watch for that and submit your votes by the deadline!

[2015 ARML] - practice tomorrow!

(Let's try that again with a few html tags... sorry about the extra email.)

Hi everyone,

Just a quick reminder that we have practice tomorrow (Saturday), 2pm-5pm in Berkeley. See the practice website for details:

https://math.berkeley.edu/~moorxu/2015ARML/

Keep in mind that practice attendance is a significant factor in team selection. If you can't come to practice, you should fill out the Practice Absence Form with a good reason.

Those of you who participated in ARML Local last weekend: results are up at http://www.arml.com/arml_2015/page/index.php?page_type=public&page=6&show_page=arml_local_results&show_arml_local_result=2015.

Recruiting is running a bit longer than usual this year due to the late release of USA(J)MO qualifiers. If you have friends who are not yet signed up for ARML, it's not too late! Have them fill out the information sheet on our website, and bring them to practice!
